Tomato and onion thokku. Made with fresh organic home grown tomatoes. Perfect combination for idli, Dosai or curd rice 2

6 medium tomatoes, 3 small onions 3

2 tbsp sambar powder, 10 to 12 curry leaves, a small gooseberry size tamarind(soak in water to extract juice)1 tsp mustard seeds and 1/4 tsp turmeric powder 4

Chop the tomatoes and onions 5

Heat 4 tbsp oil in the pan 6

Add the onions 7 Sauté that well for about 10 minutes8 Add the tomatoes

Cook the tomatoes for about 10 minutes and after it is half cooked10

Add the sambar powder

Now add the turmeric powder

Add 1 1/2 tsp of salt

Again cook for about 10 minutes until the raw smell goes away from the powders added

Switch off the flame

Allow it to cool 16

Pour some water in the pan to collect the remaining tomatoes and onions gravy 17

Transfer it to a mixer jar 18

And grind it to a smooth paste 19

Add another 4 tbsp of oil in the pan and add the mustard seeds 20

Now add the curry leaves 21

Pour the grinded mixture in the pan and sauté it 22

Add the tamarind juice now

Cover and cook the mixture or it will splatters all over the kitchen

Cook it covered until the moistures are absorbed


Switch off the flame now and the thokku is ready. 27Enjoy!
