Tomato Onion Chutney | Vegetarian Recipes

Tomato Onion Chutney is a very easy recipe and goes well with dosai and poori.  My youngest son does not like the potato masala for the pooris. So whenever I make poori at home, I have to make this tomato onion chutney specially for him. But my eldest son like the potato masala for pooris. So always we have these two dishes whenever I make pooris at home. This can be stored in the fridge for a week.

Onion 2 1/2 Medium size ( cut into lengthwise)
Tomato 3 Medium Size (cut into desired cubes)
Sambar Powder 1 tbsp
Cumin Powder 1/2 tsp
Turmeric Powder 1/2 tsp

Mustard Seeds 1/2 tsp
Dry red chilies 2 or 3 nos broken into pieces
Split Urad Dal 1/2 tsp
Curry leaves 5 or 6 nos

Add 2 1/2 tbsp oil in a pan

Once the oil is heated, add the mustard seeds. Wait until the mustard seeds crackle. Once it crackled, add the split urad dal, dry red chilies and curry leaves.

Now add the onions and begin sauteing

Add required amount of salt for the onions

Once the onions are translucent

Add the tomatoes Add required amount of salt and allow the tomatoes to cook well

Now add all the powders and cook well until the raw smell from the powders goes off

Add 1 or 2 cups of water as per your consistency. We like this as a semi gravy. So I added only 1 1/2 cups of water and cook well in a medium flame

Switch off the flame when it reaches your consistencyEnjoy!
